Community

IMS has a long track record of creating community and helping others through the work we do and organisation with whom we partner.

Whether it’s our support of Breast Cancer WA, Ocean Heroes, The First Hike Project, BT RunClub, or the IMS Run Crews that we’ve held at maritime conferences across the globe, IMS has a hand up for community action that brings people together and brings positive change to the lives of others.

Our commitment to ESG goals

IMS is fully committed to a range of ESG goals, including three core Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These SDGs are part of the United Nations’ comprehensive framework for addressing global economic, social, and environmental challenges.

At IMS, we focus on motivating our people and our business to optimise maritime asset utilisation, efficiently moving them from Port A to Port B. Our commitment extends to treating our people, customers, and the environment with care.

Our journey towards environmental commitment began in 2011 when we became the first ship delivery company to offset CO2 emissions. We are now intensifying our efforts in line with SDG 13 and 14.

Despite our reliance on fossil fuels and single-use plastics, we operate using ocean resources, impacting them through exhaust pollution that contributes to GHG emissions and ocean acidification. Our goal is to maintain a happy and healthy team within a culture of safety (SDG3) while striving to reduce emissions, expand carbon offsetting, and minimise waste, particularly single-use plastics.

First Hike Project

In 2015, while hiking in Western Australia, Neil (himself an immigrant from South Africa) proposed a little idea to his mate. “Do you reckon we could take these youth from refugee backgrounds out on a hike with us?” With that simple idea, ‘First Hike Project’ (FHP) was born.

First Hike Project is a Not-For-Profit organisation taking youth from refugee background on all-expenses-paid and all-equipment-provided overnight hiking and camping experience in the Australian bush with the goal of offering a safe, no-cost hiking experiences to people new to our country, with the hope they will feel more at home in Australia once they step outside the suburbs and discover nature. First Hike Project. Welcome is this simple.
