After being awarded a Seamanship Scholarship at the age of 15, Kim knew his life was destined to be spent on the sea. He spent his first 7 years on fishing trawlers followed by 8 years as Master on passenger ferries, 5 years as Master in the offshore oil and gas industry, has circumnavigated the globe in luxury motor yachts and captained 10 Atlantic, 2 Pacific and 2 Indian Ocean crossings. In 1996, Kim incorporated International Maritime Services Pty Ltd (IMS). Kim’s solid maritime background stands him in good stead to operate and manage IMS. The company has now grown to be the largest commercial ship delivery company in the Southern hemisphere.
Brendan’s commercial seagoing career spanned 16 years and included operating offshore vessels, superyachts and large, high-speed craft, where his specialty lies. Brendan first worked alongside Kim in 1994 and started at IMS as a Senior Master in 2007. In late 2010, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer and has since been responsible for day-to-day operations and commercial activities at IMS. In early 2015, Steve joined IMS, where he works in business and procedures development, including Quality Management System maintenance and adherence. Steve was previously with Austal, a world leader in aluminium commercial and defence ship building. During his 11 years with Austal, Steve filled roles with and gained qualifications for, production supervision, project management and business development. Prior to his time with Austal, Steve managed commercial fishing vessels in Solomon Islands and American Samoa. Steve’s earlier working life was spent first in the Royal Australian Navy, where he gained trade qualifications and later in maintenance and planning roles with a large, multi-national company.
Fred was born on the Black Sea Coast in Georgia to a family with deep maritime traditions. After finishing school, Fred studied shipbuilding and ship repair and went on to study marine engineering at the Maritime Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1993, having completed his studies, Fred worked for 6 years as a marine engineer and then as a marine agent at Klaipeda Port, Lithuania. Fred thoroughly enjoyed the business relations side of his job, which led him to study marketing, management and business. Fred started up his own logistics company and for the next 13 years, travelled around Europe, the UK and USA, attending exhibitions and meeting new clients. We are very pleased to have had Fred as the General Manager of our Europe office since May 2015.
In 2004, Lee joined the Royal Australian Navy as Bosun’s Mate, where he served 10 years conducting Border Patrols in the northern waters of Australia. The experience Lee gained in the RAN enabled him to move into the commercial maritime industry with Austal as Senior Training Coordinator, specifically for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Patrol Boats. In January 2015, Lee took on the position of Operations Manager/DPA at IMS, where he is responsible for providing onshore support for all vessels under IMS control, their crew and owners. Lee is experienced in delivery voyage set-ups and manages our Safety Management System
Born in Perth Western Australia, Mark has always had a close connection to the sea. After school, he completed a degree in science but chose a different path, becoming Fleet Manager for the well known ‘Rottnest Ferries’ company. He later moved on to Austal, to take part in ship-building project management, sea trials (including Oceanfast luxury motor yachts) and delivery of the shipyard’s new-build vessels. Mark started with IMS in 2004 and today oversees vessel deliveries as Marine Superintendent. Mark is also IMS’s senior Vessel Familiarisation Trainer, having delivered training courses to both government and commercial vessel crews, both in Australia and overseas.
Shannon first started as a Deckhand in 1997 on Rottnest Ferries. Since then, Shannon has worked on a variety of vessels, including high-speed ferries, passenger vessels and luxury yachts, within Australia and overseas. After working for Captain Cook Cruises in Perth for 9 years, Shannon transitioned into the offshore oil and gas industry with Svitzer Australia and Broadsword Marine Contractors, predominantly as Master. Shannon has assisted IMS with deliveries since 1998 and in 2014 was offered a role as a full-time Marine Superintendent. The rapid growth of IMS in the last 12 months has seen Shannon manage in excess of 18 deliveries in 2015.
Phil started his engineering career with a flight engineering scholarship in high school. During these years, Phil found a passion for the sea and upon leaving school, commenced with the local Rottnest Island Ferries, working his way up from a deckhand to become an engineer. During this time, Phil was also involved with the annual refits of the fleet, consisting of 4 wine cruise and 3 Rottnest Island ferries. After ten years with the ferries, Phil pursued further challenges and became a contractor to IMS, working full time with IMS since 2007. During this time, Phil has managed many vessel deliveries, conducted crew training, commissioning and sea trials on board vessels fitted with the latest in ship Integrated Machinery Control Systems. Phil has a great passion for engineering and enjoys the challenges that come with it.
Treena began her career in the maritime industry in 1992, working as Purchasing Officer and then Personnel Manager at Total Marine Services Pty Ltd until 2004. Treena progressed to become General Manager of Human Resources at Mermaid Marine Australia, where she remained until 2011. After completing some short-term roles, Treena commenced at IMS as Human Resources Manager in September 2014. Treena brings an in-depth knowledge of employee and industrial relations in the maritime industry, making her a valued member of our team.
Kimberley began her maritime career in 2005, joining a motor yacht based in the USA. Over 7 years, Kimberley cruised both the East and West coast of America (including Alaska), Canada, Bahamas, the Caribbean, Galapagos Islands and throughout Europe. Kimberley was also fortunate enough to be on board for several Panama Canal transits and an Atlantic crossing. In 2010, Kimberley was approached by the vessel owner to be part of the project management team for the construction of his 50m yacht, built to ISM code. In 2012, Kimberley made the decision to leave the yachting industry and move to Western Australia. At this point, Kimberley was offered the position of Office Manager at IMS. This position has since evolved to include the role of HSEQ Coordinator.
Corinne has held a wide variety of accounting and financial technical and management roles since starting her career in 1995. Corinne’s expertise lies in international business and governance with large companies in the rail transport, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas operations, subsea and ship-building sectors. Corinne has a passion for quality financial and management reporting, financial systems implementation and streamlining, optimising cash flow and foreign-exchange strategies. Corinne joined IMS in June 2015 to manage all financial aspects of our expanding operations. She is thoroughly enjoying coordinating our international dealings and assisting in our growth.
Linda commenced her working life in Western Australia’s remote North West and then travelled around Australia to work for various companies in a range of industries, before returning to Western Australia. After gaining her financial qualifications, Linda joined IMS in 2005 and took on the administrative functions of bookkeeping, crewing and other office duties for our growing company. Linda’s depth of experience makes her an integral part of the expanding Finance Team.
